Why It Matters
Dawnwatch is where the campaign's hidden historical conflict becomes a public political crisis. Caldus is murdered here, the archive is burned here, Valec turns the Guard against the Crown, and the Eclipse Court ultimately besieges the city. The survival of Dawnwatch preserves Maelin's government but does not restore trust automatically; the city now has to rebuild while preparing for Caelum's approach and the larger black-star threat.
