Brother Caldus Venn

Brother Caldus Venn was a royal archivist whose final research uncovered contradictions in the official history of Queen Seraphine and the Crown of the First Dawn. Before his death he traced sealed material beneath the old observatory, obtained the brass sun-key, altered a funerary prayer to preserve the warning that morning was divided by choice, and marked routes toward Saint Orien and Lake Auriel. He was murdered beside a breached solar vault before he could present the full discovery to Voss or Ysabet.

Caldus is the dead investigator whose unfinished work gives the campaign its first reliable trail. His importance comes only from evidence established after his death: the key he preserved, the warning he encoded, the routes he marked, and the archive requests he made. Those clues open locations the party could not otherwise reach and reveal which history the conspiracy feared. His murder also convinces Voss that normal reporting channels are unsafe.
