Why It Matters
Lake Auriel establishes what the Crown actually does: it amplifies conviction rather than granting moral wisdom or simple dominion. The sanctuary also introduces memory as a real magical cost, foreshadowing the irreversible price Aster later pays at the Forge. Selvara's appearance here is the first direct indication that Valec is subordinate to a larger Eclipse purpose.
