Queen Maelin Auriel

Maelin Auriel is the reigning Queen of Aurelis, a reform-minded monarch whose government was infiltrated by her Chancellor and whose missing brother became the Eclipse Regent. Generations of erased records leave her with less knowledge of Seraphine’s true history than the party eventually recovers. After surviving an assassination attempt and Valec’s coup, she authorizes the party to operate beyond damaged institutions. She accepts that Caelum identified a real celestial threat without accepting that this excuses his crimes or proves his solution.

Maelin represents legitimate authority confronting the limits of inherited knowledge. She is not an automatic answer to Caelum: her decisions govern resources, disclosure, defense, and the recovery of institutions after betrayal. The Crown’s vision makes her position harder by confirming the threat her brother used to justify treason while leaving his permanent-twilight strategy unproven. Her inclusion of the party in the coming parley recognizes that they possess evidence neither royal sibling had when their conflict began.
