Auriel Memory Echo

Memory Echoes are temporary humanoid manifestations formed by the silver water beneath Lake Auriel. They repeat preserved gestures, phrases, and emotional impressions without behaving like complete resurrected people. The sanctuary produces them when memories are offered or examined, allowing the party to witness fragments of earlier visitors without establishing that the original minds remain present.

The Echoes give visible form to the sanctuary’s central rule: memory is something the ancient system can preserve, exchange, and consume. Their incomplete nature foreshadows the sharper cost at the Forge of Morning, where Aster learns that a memory can remain historically true while becoming personally inaccessible.
