The Price of Devotion

At Ilyr, Aster volunteered to bear the Crown’s memory-price if no alternative could be found. The choice became real at the Forge of Morning, where he surrendered the last peaceful day he spent with his father. He still knows the day happened but can no longer recover his father’s face or voice within it.

The sacrifice restored the Crown without proving that sacrifice itself was wise. Aster now has to decide whether his willingness to pay a cost makes him fit to carry responsibility—or whether the Crown was designed to teach exactly the opposite lesson.
